• Hours after resigning as Calcutta HC judge, Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay announces joining BJP
• Plans to join BJP tentatively scheduled for March 7th afternoon
• Speculations rife about potential candidacy in upcoming LS polls from Bengal's Tamluk constituency on BJP ticket

Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay, hours after resigning as Calcutta HC judge joined BJP. 

“Maybe on 7th (March) in the afternoon. There is a tentative program, when I will join BJP,” the former Calcutta high court judge said at a press conference.

This announcement follows his resignation sent earlier in the day to President Droupadi Murmu, with copies addressed to Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Calcutta High Court Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam.

Speaking to the media prior to his resignation, Justice Gangopadhyay asserted "my soul tells me that my tenure as a judge is over and it is time to enter a bigger sphere and serve people. I will put in my papers on Tuesday."

Speculations have been rife that he will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from Bengal's Tamluk constituency on a BJP ticket.
